About Me

13

Years Of Experience

As a Nigerian Canadian cis-het man and a Registered Social Worker and psychotherapist, my professional journey is deeply intertwined with my personal experiences navigating various intersecting identities, including race, gender, class, neurodivergence, and mental health.

This rich tapestry of experience fuels my dedication to providing compassionate and affirming therapy services, with a particular focus on the mental health and well-being of racialized communities.

With a Master of Social Work specializing in clinical assessment and a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a focus on Gender and the Family, along with over 13 years of experience in community development, social services, and mental health sectors, I bring a comprehensive skill set to my practice.

My therapy approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and affirming, addressing the unique challenges faced by racialized first and second-generation Canadians, including depression, anxiety, perfectionism, and low self-esteem.

I have also worked extensively in the child welfare system, providing psychotherapy to youth and adults in conflict with the law, assisting them in addressing issues such as conduct disorder, addiction, and anti-social behaviors. Additionally, as a Child and Family Therapist in children’s mental health services, I have supported individuals, groups, and families dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, learning disabilities, high-functioning ASD, and self-regulation difficulties.

A significant aspect of my experience involves providing interventions, case management, and counseling to children, families, and youth facing various psycho/social/physical, emotional, and environmental challenges in residential and community settings. Throughout my interactions, I consistently demonstrate qualities, such as calmness, compassion, tact, tolerance, and sensitivity to diversity while upholding objectivity, self-control, impartiality, discretion, and confidentiality.

Furthermore, I possess a deep understanding of the needs and issues of at-risk youth, employing trauma-informed care practices, adolescent development theories, resiliency theories, and child development principles to inform my work. My expertise in evaluating client mental status enables me to identify their needs, strengths, abilities, and barriers collaboratively, leading to the development and implementation of realistic service plans.
